Online Dating For Baby Boomers Tips For Successful Results

Online Dating For Baby Boomers Tips For Successful Results
When you're looking for someone to share your life why not give online dating a go? It's no longer the taboo place to go, where previously only those who couldn't get a date any other way would try. These days so many of us have such hectic lives between work, the gym, cooking meals and shopping that trying to fit in time to find someone new is almost impossible. With online dating you get to meet a much wider variety of singles who match your interests than you would in day-to-day life, and you don't have to spend a lot of time or money just getting to know someone.

Whether or not you've already signed up to a site you can still make the most of our tips and start a successful search for someone new.

1. Choose a reliable site - use review sites or recommendations from friends to find a reliable site; if you know how the site stores and uses your personal information you'll be able to decide if you want to go ahead. Some sites also offer screening to make sure that the person you're talking to is who they say they are.

2. Don't include your normal e-mail address - set up a special e-mail that you use just for dating. Try using a service like yahoo or hotmail.

3. Don't readily give out your home or work address and phone numbers. If someone seems wants to know these details early on in your relationship and you're not comfortable then report them to the site administrator.

4. Don't put your full name on your profile - when you're first getting to know someone all you need to include is your first name.

5. Don't rush the face-to-face meetings - get to know about your potential date online and be comfortable with them before you meet up for real.

6. Learn to read chat body language - you'll be surprised how easy this is with time, but remember what you say can usually be interpreted in several ways so try to make the meaning of what you're saying clear. E.g. add lol (for laugh out loud) after a comment if it is meant to be amusing, or write in italics if you want to stress a particular word. You'll soon get used to it.

7. Keep it simple but entertaining - make your profile say something about who you are; make it creative and informative without being just a list; show people what gets you going and makes you feel passionate and you'll soon start meeting the right sort of people.

8. Be polite - let people know if you're not interested, but don't say something in writing that you wouldn't say to someone's face. If you are uncomfortable with the way a conversation is going tell the person and hopefully this will resolve the issue. However if anyone becomes a problem you can usually block them from having contact with you and you can inform the site administrator.

9. Accept the no's with grace - don't worry if you get a few knock backs; that's life. There are loads of people out there and that person just wasn't right for you and after all, they are missing out on getting to know you where someone else will be more than happy to have the chance.

10. It's not all about romance - you might meet new friends as well as a new partner in life. Maybe there won't be chemistry between you and some of the people you meet, but you may well get on very well and just have a great time making new friends.

Whatever you do we hope these tips help, but remember to enjoy the experience of online dating.
